Trend: New research shows increasing appetite for sustainable seafood

Published by MSC,

Research into seafood buying behaviour around the world shows that consumers are increasingly looking for fish products from a sustainable source, and that ecolabels give credibility to these claims. For this research, over 9,000 regular seafood buyers from 15 countries across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America were questioned. The findings highlighted that supermarkets and restaurants are seen to have a key role in ensuring the sustainability of seafood (65%), brands that use ecolabels are more trusted than those that don’t (46%) and traceability (66%) and sustainability (61%) are high on the consumer agenda.
