GODAN Success stories issue 1
Global Open Data for Agriculture & Nutrition (GODAN) published its first issue of the Success Stories brochure (PDF). In this issue, fifteen success stories are shared on the use of open data for agriculture and nutrition. GODAN supports the proactive sharing of open data to make information about agriculture and nutrition available, accessible and usable to deal with the urgent challenge of ensuring world food security. They argue that the next level of global efficiency in agriculture can be reached through open data. Open data allows governments, private sector and civil society to work together in a true participative manner. The cases share insights from Asia and Africa as well as global initiatives. For example, orchard water management in South Africa through a satellite based service that extracts open data to help improve irrigation and water management. Another example is connecting soil sensor technology to the knowledge of experienced growers and open data for a better control of water and improved irrigation and the fine-tuning of growing environments for all participating farms.
