This third Outcomes Paper of the F&BR Synthesis Study assesses the outcomes delivered by thirteen Food & Business Research (F&BR) projects in terms of increased food production by and for farming communities in seven African and two Asian countries. Smallholders play a vital role in contributing to food and nutrition security. Ironically, smallholders and their families are themselves among the poorest and most food insecure people in the global South. »

This second Outcomes Paper of the F&BR Synthesis Study assesses the outcomes delivered by sixteen Food & Business Research (F&BR) projects for both policy formulation and implementation of FNS policies by government and non-profit agencies. The design of food security policies can be influenced by knowledge and research. A better understanding derived from research, can help policymakers and practitioners reconsider or adjust their policy priorities, strategies and viewpoints. »

On June 24, 2020, the second call of the CoP Markets, Supply Chains and Nutritious foods took place online. The CoP is convened by GAIN and co-convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Food Partnership. The call focused on a country mapping identifying the sectors and value chains in which CoP participants are active for the selected priority countries Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Bangladesh. »

On June 22, 2020, the second meeting of the CoP on Digital Solutions was convened by 2SCALE to discuss a proposal for an action perspective of this CoP was discussed. In preparation, a mapping was carried out to inventory the activities of organizations in the realm of digital technologies in food security programming. As an intermediate step the organization a webinars series was proposed to kick start this CoP with a practical perspective. »

A stronger horticulture sector in low- and middle-income countries is expected to contribute to among others (inclusive) business development, employment, enhanced Food and Nutrition Security and economic growth. This has motivated the Netherlands to substantially invest in horticulture initiatives in these countries. This synthesis paper was written to develop an overview of the most important insights and lessons from these initiatives, with the aim of contributing to improved policy and practice of future horticulture development initiatives. »
