This year, the Africaday will be held on Saturday, November 1, once again at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. In the afternoon you can attend the Workshop “Milk quality at stake! Solutions from India, Ethiopia and The Netherlands for the reduction of antibiotics in dairy farming.”
Resistance against antibiotics is a global threat. Antibiotic use is a widespread phenomenon amongst smallholder dairy farmers worldwide, and often linked to dairy development programs aiming for increased milk production. Over the past 60 years the Netherlands has played an important role in this process, which is now further enhanced by government policies through topsector Agri&Food.
Now milk quality is at stake, due to widespread use of antibiotics. In this workshop experts from Ehtiopia and India working with smallholder dairy farmers will describe the influence of such dairy programs in their local situations, and indicate their local solutions for these challenges.
The workshop is aimed at all actors in the dairy chain and development cooperation active in Africa, as well as those interested in sustainable food production, food quality and food marketing in general. This meeting is part of a 10-day visit of the Indian delegation of experts in the field of the use of medicinal plants, as part of the E-Motive exchange program and the province of Overijssel.
