As the reduction of food losses and valorisation of waste must be part of a portfolio of solutions needed to feed the world more sustainably, GFIA 2015 will include a major focus on the important issues. In partnership with Wageningen UR this side event ‘Food Losses and Waste Initiative: From Prevention to Valorisation’ will comprise a three-day, solutions-oriented conference together with a supporting technology pavilion in the GFIA Exhibition.

A dedicated pavilion in the exhibition will feature technologies and services relating to food losses and waste, together with the following areas:

  • Harvesting technology
  • Handling equipment and initial processing equipment
  • Packing house operations: dumping, washing, waxing, sorting, packing line
  • Primary processing of raw materials
  • Storage technology and equipment
  • Distribution and transportation and cold chain
  • Secondary food processing

GFIA 2015 will deliver visitors from over 100 countries, including a special focus on Africa. The UAE Government has put forward major sponsorship to fund the travel and accommodation for 300 top African buyers and specifiers as part of a hosted buyers programme. Qualifying countries include Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola, Ghana, South Africa, Sudan, Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt. They will join over 6,000 other agriculture professionals who will be in Abu Dhabi to find the latest sustainable agriculture innovations.
