Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS), celebrated annually on October 30, aims to create a platform in which concerned stakeholders can discuss solutions and make recommendations on food security issues in Africa. It is also a platform to strengthen the momentum towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to assess what happens after the 2015 deadline.

2014 is the Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa, marking the 10th Anniversary of the adoption of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programma (CAADP). The Year of Agriculture intends to: consolidate active commitments toward new priorities, strategies and targets for achieving results and impacts, with special focus on sustained, all Africa agriculture-led growth, propelled by stronger, private sector investment and public-private partnership.

Food Commemoration of the fifth Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security in October 2014 forms part of a series of events organized by the African Union in this Year of Agriculture.
