On November 14, 2019, NWO-WOTRO and F&BKP organized a conference in The Hague gathering representatives of 14 finalized Global Challenges Programme projects. The objective was to communicate and discuss synthesized project research results, insights and lessons learned, aiming to inspire practices and policies in the field of Inclusive Agribusiness (IAB) and to scale promising solutions. FNS Excellence Programme students meet Ministries
Theme: FNS Excellence Programme

The Food & Nutrition Security Excellence Programme is currently entering its final stage. The students handed in their work plans and met again with their coaches. Moreover, they visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MinFA) and of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (MinAgri) to learn more about Dutch FNS policy. During the last month of the Programme, the teams will formulate concrete and sustainable solutions to the challenges the Dutch Embassies of Burundi and Kenya face in their FNS projects and programmes. »

Dairy Development in emerging economies: A motor for sustainable and healthy growth?

Dairy Development and intensification contributes to healthy food, gainful employment and sustaining the agro-ecological base, stated Jan van der Lee during his key note speech at the Dairy event in Veenendaal on November 27. A total of 89 participants joined the workshop on “Dairy Development in emerging economies: A motor for sustainable and healthy growth?” to discuss needs, challenges and opportunities of dairy development in emerging economies. The input gathered during the meeting will enrich the draft Dairy Discussion paper and the proposed Dutch agenda for dairy and development. »

Benin Applied Research Fund workshop: Result uptake and scaling opportunities

”We need a paradigm shift to involve unusual suspects in research partnerships to foster the scaling of research and innovation on food and nutrition security”, was one of the conclusions during the ARF country workshop in Benin. Representatives of eleven Beninese ARF projects gathered in Cotonou from November 20 to 22, 2019 to take stock of lessons learned and outcomes and to jointly reflect, learn and work on further uptake of results. »

During October and November, the students participating in the Food & Nutrition Security Excellence Programme have dived into their assignment to find sustainable solutions to real-life challenges of the Dutch Embassies in Kenya and Burundi. To guide and support the students in their work, several events have been organized, including a number of masterclasses, a coaching session with an FNS expert and a one-on-one contact moment with both Embassies. »
