YEP Effect 5, results of YEP Phase I

The fifth edition of YEP Effect has been released, informing about the impact made through YEP Water and Agrofood and the new YEP Tailor-made programme. The magazine reflects on 16 batches of Young Experts in YEP Phase I (2013-2019), and the new YEP Tailor-made programme. The YEP Bureau is currently negotiating about YEP Phase II, and hopes to continue the Young Expert Programmes soon. »

Entrepreneurship in agriculture is often touted as one of the innovative approaches to addressing poverty and food insecurity in developing and emerging economies. It is also considered a means out of unemployment for the rapidly increasing youth population in many developing economies. The challenge for entrepreneurs in agriculture, or “agripreneurs”, is to innovate and spawn ideas and approaches to spur on agricultural production to meet future demand; this challenge is particularly targeted at unemployed youth, who are expected to rise to the challenge not only of farming, but of being entrepreneurial. »

Three awards under Senior Expert Programme of the Netherlands-CGIAR partnership

Three senior researchers employed at Dutch research organizations will receive extra funding to spend more time on their CGIAR research and research management in large CGIAR programmes and platforms. The CGIAR, a global research partnership, also collaborates with the Netherlands on food security, dedicated to reducing poverty, enhancing food and nutrition security, and improving natural resources. »

Dutch horticulture experts provided input for the agenda of the envisaged multi-stakeholder learning loops, which have the aim to improve practices and policies in the international horticultural sector, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). At the same time, CGIAR and other public research organisations apply Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). This article addresses the question how exclusive rights on new technologies can be reconciled with the production of international public goods. »
