On January 23, the AgriProFocus network, in close collaboration with the F&BKP, facilitates the fifth Community of Practice (CoP) around Youth in Agribusiness and food systems, entitled “Supply and demand factors impacting youth employment & entrepreneurship”. The aim is to exchange knowledge, share experiences and jointly contribute to innovative solutions for young people to become successful in agrofood sectors and to have their voices heard among decision makers.

Young people struggle to make the transition from education to work to become financially independent. A growing aspiration gap lays bare the friction between economic realities and what it means for youth to be gainfully employed or a successful entrepreneur.

The agrofood sector holds a great deal of potential. While national and global organisations are recognizing the urgency of addressing the matter of youth employment and entrepreneurship, their approaches have yielded varying results. Will present interventions lead us to achieve our ambitious goals?

In this 5th Community of Practice meet-up, CTA WUR want to discuss the framework and accompanying brief they developed on “supply and demand factors impacting youth employment & entrepreneurship”. The purpose of this model and the brief is to propose a systems approach and to serve as a guide for those who are deciding where to best intervene or for their investments to have greatest impact on youth employment and entrepreneurship.

CTA & WUR would love to hear from the participants whether the framework captures the multiple issues and addresses the most effective ways to overcome the challenge of youth under- and unemployment, and expand youth entrepreneurial opportunities. Can it help guide meaningful interventions? Which suggestions do you have for improvements? How can we move to (more) collective action on these issues?

Per organization one colleague involved in the youth programmes can participate on January 23 at the CTA Office in Wageningen. To join the CoP, please fill in this registration form latest January 17.

Please contact Rolf Schinkel () or Babs Ates () if you have any questions.
