The City of The Hague and The Hague Institute for Global Justice are co-organizing a high-level event on the Right to Food as part of the World Expo. The aim of this conference is to develop a concrete agenda for realizing the Right to Food in the context of international peace and justice, with a special focus on the role of cities. The organizers seek to achieve this objective through focused expert presentations and interactive sessions with the audience centered around three important perspectives: conflict prevention, rule of law, and global governance.

The high-level event will include short presentations led by five keynote speakers from various disciplines, including Ms. Sonja Biserko, Founder and President of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia and Member of the Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; and Mr. Chris Arsenault, Reporter on global food security and agricultural politics at Thomson Reuters.

Each will outline the challenges and potential concrete steps towards strengthening the international Right to Food framework, bearing in mind current and future worldwide needs. Following these presentations, the audience will engage in interactive group discussions to collectively identify opportunities to strengthen the Right to Food.

The audience will consists of 80 high-level participants from Italy, the Netherlands and other EU countries, including judges and international legal experts, philosophers, business representatives, NGO representatives, as well as PhD researchers.

The event is part of the international Dutch Dialogue Series, organized by the Netherlands with the support of the Dutch General Consul Mr. David P.M. de Waal, in the context of the World Expo in Milan. This Series aims to achieve an open exchange of knowledge and ideas through focused expert presentations and interactive sessions with the audience.

The event is by invitation only and is a special opportunity to take part in a strategic dialogue on the Right to Food, and share views with leading experts and decision-makers on contemporary challenges and opportunities.
