Small-scale farmers and fishers feed up a large part of the world’s population, yet they are rarely consulted about the solutions needed to address hunger.
Instead these hardworking providers face unprecedented grabs of their land, water and oceans, due to investments of major transnational corporations and facilitated by discriminatory trade policies. Creating a just sustainable food system at a time of climate crisis will require investing in agro-ecological alternatives led by community-based farmers and fishers.
A distinguished panel of experts and activists will share their visions on a more just food system, including Hilal Elver, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, and representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Trade and Development.
With inputs from Sylvia Kay, researcher at Transnational Institute (TNI), Sofia Monsalve of human rights organization FIAN and representatives from La Via Campesina.
