Join the Cool Farm Alliance on September 29, at 1500 to officially launch the online version of the Cool Farm Tool (CFT).

The online CFT is a greenhouse gas and biodiversity calculator for farming. It is unique in being useful at both ends of the supply chain. Companies can use it to collate and manage supply chain emissions and biodiversity to encourage, motivate, track and reward continuous improvement, and farmers can use it for decision support. The CFT is free for growers.

The Cool Farm Tool (CFT) was originally developed by Unilever and researchers at the University of Aberdeen to help growers measure and understand on-farm greenhouse gas emissions. The CFT has since been tested and adopted by a range of multinational companies who are using it to work with their suppliers to measure, manage, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the effort to mitigate global climate change.

The CFT brings together farmers, NGOs, multinational food suppliers and retailers to promote agricultural practices that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Unilever, PepsiCo, Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Yara, Heineken and Fertilizer’s Europe have joined forces as founding members of the Cool Farm Alliance whose mission is, “To enable millions of growers globally to make more informed on-farm decisions that reduce their environmental impact. Focusing on greenhouse gases in the first phase, the Alliance provides the Cool Farm Tool as a quantified decision support tool that is credible and standardized. The Cool Farm Alliance serves as both a knowledge platform and a tool development forum.”
