On 13 -14 May 2015, the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF), UNEP and the Government of Kenya will co-host an African Regional 3GF Conference in Nairobi. By providing a global-regional platform, 3GF will contribute to building consensus on how to turn challenges on sustainable development and climate change into opportunities for green growth and improved livelihoods for all.

The conference will address key African green growth political priorities and interests and cover 3GF cross-cutting themes on financing for green growth, cities as drivers of green growth and sustainable life styles. The conference will focus on issues such as how different minds-sets and lifestyles, low carbon strategies, sustainable resource management, increased financing, and appropriate policies and frameworks can help African transition to a green economy. It will look at which regional and international partnerships could help to accelerate the implementation of green growth plans and priorities. Topics will include issues such as water, energy, waste to energy/waste management, industrial symbiosis and land restoration.

The conference will bridge global and regional challenges, stakeholders and opportunities by bringing international and regional discussions, best practice and actors together. This international-African nexus will provide new perspectives and insights into current challenges and opportunities. And explore collaborative partnerships creating opportunities for innovative green growth solutions and sustainable growth in the African region.

By bringing existing global collaborative 3GF partnerships into the regional contexts, 3GF aims to develop and strengthen the regional and national engagement in the partnerships and seek to implement and test partnership solutions.

The conference will include both high-level deliberations and informal partnership sessions and address four overall areas:

• The State of the World – bringing global discussions on green growth into a regional context;
• The State of the Region – bringing regional discussions on green growth into a global context;
• Global 3GF partnerships – how can actors from countries in the region engage in the 3GF partnerships;
• Ideas labs – bringing  new partnership ideas based on regional needs to the 3GF platform.
