Improving food security and nutrition is critical to meeting the SDGs, but the world is not on track to end hunger and malnutrition by 2030. How can we accelerate progress in transforming our agri-food systems to meet the needs of the hungry and malnourished? This question will be addressed during a global event on November 28–30, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand, organized by IFPRI and FAO.

To answer the question, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have organized a global eventto accelerate progress to end hunger and malnutrition. This event is aligned with the imperatives of the Compact2025 initiative and the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition to make accelerated progress on hunger and undernutrition by 2025 to pave the way for achieving all the SDGs. Compact2025 was launched to support the achievement of SDG2 and the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition.

The global event will be held November 28–30, 2018, taking place in Bangkok, Thailand and will bring together decision makers, practictioners, researchers, and other stakeholders from around the world to:

  • Highlight success stories and lessons learned
  • Explore new ideas and innovations to disrupt business-as-usual
  • Identify opportunities to scale up successful actions
  • Catalyze cross-sectoral learning and cooperation

The event will feature a wide range of plenary sessions, debates, presentations of evidence-based analysis, rapid fire presentations, roundtable and panel discussions, and side events. The sessions will be live-streamed and interactive to garner participation from the global community.

The event will produce many outputs, including a book, and information tools such as videos and slide decks. The results of the conference will be summarized in a brief called “The Bangkok Accelerators” that describes the key lessons learned and actions needed to speed up the end of hunger and malnutrition. The event will also build toward the creation of a network for cross-sectoral dialogue, information sharing, coordination, advocacy, and action, both at the global and country levels.
