The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CRESA (Niger) and Both ENDS organize this lunch meeting “Regreening Niger – successes help farmer-led adaption to climate change” about Assisted Natural Regeneration (RNA). As a successful approach to Niger’s climate change impacts and its ecological and food security crises, RNA restores the original vegetation on the land to improve the fertility of the soil, to restore hydrology and to grow a wide variety of products.

With the support of the Turing Foundation and together with Both ENDS Niger’s Agro-scientific research agency (CRESA) coordinates the upscaling and replication of the successful restoration approach which is led by farmers. Currently, almost 300 000 hectares of land is treated by farmers and other local land users.

Programme

During the lunch meeting CRESA will explain more about their approach to support farmers in building food security, self reliance and strengthen climate resilience.

12:00 – 12:30: sandwich lunch

12:30 – 14:00: presentation by Prof. Toudou Adam (Director of Centre Régional De l’Enseignement Spécialisé en Agriculture – CRESA) and Dr Abasse Tougiani (Researcher at Niger National Institute of Agricultural Research – INRAN); followed by a discussion
