Theme of the second Voedsel Anders Conference is “Towards fair and sustainable food systems”. Farmers, fishermen, citizens, scientists and grassroots organizations will convene again to take further steps towards contemporary, sustainable and fair food production and consumption, with new relationships between food producers and (urban) citizens.

Towards fair and sustainable food systems

Would you like to learn about, experience and discuss new and viable food and agriculture practices and policy? Would you like to help build bridges and contribute to a more sustainable and fair system? Would you like to meet sustainable (young) farmers and fishermen, and be inspired by innovative examples from the Netherlands and abroad? Then be sure to visit this conference!

Voedsel Anders promises great speakers from home and abroad, such as Irene Cardoso (Chair of the Brazilian Agroecology Association, Professor of Soil Science),  Jyoti Fernandes (farmer and member of La Via Campesina Europe), Sieta Keimpema (Dutch Dairymen Board), Jonathan Karpathios (Greek- Dutch chef, food blogger and gardener), Olivier De Schutter (IPES-Food), Jocelyn Parot (Urgenci), Maryam Rahmanian (FAO) and Jan Douwe van der Ploeg (Wageningen University).

There will also be around 60 workshops related to agroecology, soils, permaculture, short chains, regional food systems, urban farming, land rights, access to land, seeds, trade agreements, agriculture and food policy. On Saturday the conference will be combined with Reclaim the Seeds and there is also a special kids’ programme.

The conference will be accessible to non-Dutch speakers as keynotes will be (interpreted) in English and in every round various workshops will take place in English.

The conference is supported by: Action Aid, A SEED, Association for biodynamic farming and food, Boerengroep, Both ENDS, Brabantse Milieufederatie, Cityplot, Centrum voor Landbouw en Milieu, Down2Earth, Dutch Dairymen Board, FIAN-NL, Greenpeace, Hivos, ILEIA, Land&Co, La Via Campesina, Louis Bolk Instituut, Milieudefensie/ FoE Netherlands, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nederlandse Akkerbouw Vakbond, NetVisWerk, OtherWise, Platform Aarde Boer Concument, RUAF, Toekomstboeren, Transnational Institute, Triodos Foundation, Velt, and Wageningen University.

About Voedsel Anders (Food Otherwise)

Voedsel Anders (Food Otherwise) is a network of farmers, fisherfolk, scientists, beekeepers, students, artists, professionals, policymakers, journalists and other active citizens in the Netherlands and Belgium engaged in building healthy food systems. While the current agrifood system is depleting the soil and biodiversity, causes major greenhouse gas emissions and squeezes farmers out of business, many local, national and international initiatives show that there is another way. Around the world, we can feed ourselves sustainably with good and healthy food that is produced regionally, with fair prices and dignified lives for farmers, fishermen and citizens, while respecting the environment and biodiversity. This is the system Voedsel Anders promotes. Read the manifest of Voedsel Anders

The first Voedsel Anders Conference

The first Voedsel Anders conference at the University of Wageningen in 2014 was a great success with over 800 participants.
