The SEED Africa Symposium is an annual international forum for sharing knowledge and experience, establishing partnerships, and developing solutions to stimulate the growth of social and eco-entrepreneurship across the African continent.

The sectors of both agriculture and tourism are highly relevant for Kenya’s economy. Within the framework of the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, new ways need to be found to catalyse innovative entrepreneurial solutions.

In the agricultural sector, innovative climate-smart solutions to intensify production are a promising pathway towards sustainable development. Energy and agriculture form a nexus: on the one hand, energy can be generated from crops, agricultural residues and livestock waste. On the other hand, substantial amounts of energy are required alongside the agricultural and food processing value chain. East African eco-entrepreneurs might be heading the movement to connect energy and agriculture, but they face numerous challenges. Policy makers, researchers, finance institutions and other stakeholders can support smallholders in overcoming these barriers and scaling innovative solutions at the Energy-Agriculture Nexus.
