Organizer

F&BKP, NWO-WOTRO, Université D’Abomey-Calavi & APF Bénin

The Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP) and NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development from the Netherlands organize a public seminar, together with the Université D’Abomey-Calavi, and AgriProFocus Bénin. The Public Day is entitled “Enhancing nutrition-agriculture linkages through better informed policy and practice”.

To achieve food and nutrition security for all, value chains from farm-to-fork need constant review and adaptation to changing circumstances or new situations. In everyday practice, the exchange of information and knowledge between different value chain actors (such as farmers, transporters, packagers and retails) usually takes places from the perspective of value chain development. To tackle the burden of food insecurity and malnutrition effectively, however, the existing collaborations and knowledge sharing may be insufficient. Better collaborating with other sectors, like health, education, water and sanitation, is often required.

Public Day

The public seminar will thematically focus on linkages between nutrition and agriculture. It will highlight practical examples of how agricultural interventions throughout value chains can have a positive impact on people’s health and nutritional status. This theme will be critically discussed from the perspective of (knowledge) exchange between related stakeholders from entrepreneurs to researchers and policy makers. This public event offers participants, like you, the opportunity to learn and reflect on possible strategies to better connect actors within these value chains in order to improve food and nutrition security.

Applied Research Fund workshop

This seminar will be organized following a two-day learning workshop for food security Applied Research Fund projects, funded by NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development. The focus of this learning workshop is on knowledge co-creation and knowledge sharing in order to enhance research uptake for food security.
