In 2020 a synthesis study of the GCP and ARF projects under the Food & Business Research programme is executed. This first Thematic Paper of the F&BR Synthesis Study discusses Research for Development insights and innovations regarding three principles of Circular Agriculture: (1) preserving and enhancing natural resources, (2) efficient use of resources, and (3) multi-purpose use and recovering value from waste. »

On November 14, 2019, NWO-WOTRO and F&BKP organized a conference in The Hague gathering representatives of 14 finalized Global Challenges Programme projects. The objective was to communicate and discuss synthesized project research results, insights and lessons learned, aiming to inspire practices and policies in the field of Inclusive Agribusiness (IAB) and to scale promising solutions. The Global Challenges Programme project “Sustainable aquaculture to support mangrove forest restoration in Indonesia (PASMI)” held its closing stakeholder workshop on September 19, 2019 at the Diponegoro University (UNDIP) in Indonesia, also to support the related project Demak-Building with Nature (BwN). »

Midterm findings of the CSA/SuPER project in Tanzania: Climate change impacts are felt along the entire agricultural value chain; Adoption rates of CSA practices among small-scale rural farmers are low; Significant opportunity exists for greater collaboration among institutions and formation of synergies across projects; Farmers do not adopt the CSA practices that involve adoption of new cash crops unless they are confident that there is a market; There is limited involvement of Tanzanian (non-)governmental organizations. »

In June 2019, the projects from the fourth call of the Global Challenges Programme, focusing on Scaling up climate-smart agriculture, gathered for joint learning and exchanges.
