The opportunities for the Dutch agri-food sector to cooperate with partners in Africa, Asia, and North and Central America have been explored in 16 Seed Money Projects (SMPs), financially supported by the Dutch Topsectors Agri & Food and Horticulture & Starting Materials. The results of these projects, carried out in 2019, were presented in a public meeting mid-December 2019. »

The Africa Agriculture Status Report of 2019 highlights the trends and progress, as well as challenges and constraints of private sector firms in the upstream and midstream/downstream off-farm components of the agri-food system. Fairfood, in collaboration with WCDI and supported by the F&BKP, has conducted a scoping study on Blockchain Technology (BCT). The two key objectives to this study were to establish a solid understanding of BCT and the core principles behind BCT cases in the agri-food sector; and to identify good practices, challenges, and limitations of BCT use in agri-food chains that are relevant for LMICs. »

This publication aims to provide ways to ensure that agricultural systems continue to function throughout violent conflict, recover more quickly and minimize the risks of fueling further conflicts so that the people within the systems maintain food security and economic gains. The “freedom of movement” can be used as a proxy indicator to determine which intervention can apply. »

This paper shares various experiences associated with the construction of urban city-region agri-food practices and policies in Latin-America. Two-thirds of the Latin American population lives in cities. This represents a challenge, which is compounded by factors such as migration and climate change. In recent decades, Latin America has witnessed the emergence of initiatives and movements that seek to promote urban and organic agriculture, waste management, short distribution chains and healthier consumption as part of urban development. »

This landscape study seeks to answer the question: “What can we do today to inspire and propel the “agri-food stars” of tomorrow?” The study reveals a window of opportunity to strengthen the ecosystem of support around young entrepreneurs, helping them to build successful enterprises, including high-growth businesses, spurring job creation and a vibrant agri-food economy. »
