Netherlands-CGIAR partnership launches research call on improving Seed Systems in Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa

The Netherlands-CGIAR partnership has launched a  Call for research proposals which generate insights that contribute to improving “seed” systems in Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa. Applications for pre-proposals can be submitted until April 12, 2018. The deadline for full proposals will be August 30, 2018. »

Sufficient and healthy food for the booming African cities is a huge challenge. Dutch agri-food companies already play a significant role in the increasing worldwide demand for (fresh) food produce. On January 16, 2018, the F&BKP and MVO Nederland organized the second meeting of the “Innovation Network Feeding Cities” to facilitate sharing of experiences in practice, matchmaking of ideas and people, and looking for improvement of the enabling institutional environment. »

Understanding better who benefits from Inclusive Business Models for Food and Nutrition Security

“Inclusive Business Models offer opportunities for economic and social development for certain groups, but they are not effective as means to poverty alleviation”. That finding was presented by Guus van Westen (Utrecht University), coordinator of the Follow the Food project. This entails one of the nine research consortia funded within GCP-2, that were all present during their midterm meeting in Kenya from January 15 till 19. »

Creating Stories of Change

On November 1, 2017, NWO-WOTRO together with the Food & Business Knowledge Platform offered a training to GCP consortia on how to write and tell stories of change. The training was set up to enhance the skills of GCP researchers to identify and present their research insights to various target audiences. Several stories of change were developed after the training and published on the project pages. »

Newsletter conference “Research & Policy: two peas in a pod? A dialogue for food security impact”

The conference “Research & Policy: two peas in a pod? A dialogue for food security impact” on December 1, organized by NWO-WOTRO and the F&BKP in close collaboration with the Ministries of Forgein Affairs and Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, was a major step in improving the link between research and policy. Around 150 participants from the Netherlands, Africa and South Asia gathered in The Hague to share and connect their work in the field of food security. »
