This report examined the most up-to-date scientific assessment of the danger humanity faces if present trends continue, with priority being given to food systems in low and middle income countries (LMIC). The potential severity of the combinations of risks to which LMIC food systems are exposed requires a change in their transformation pattern. Mariska Bottema, a researcher in the Global Challenges Programme (GCP) project SUPERSEAS, recently published a paper in Aquaculture that identifies some key challenges that private actors leading AIPs face when trying to address aquaculture risks that reach beyond the farm. »

Spatial targeting of ICT-based weather and agro-advisory services for climate risk management in agriculture

This paper presents a scientific and integrated approach to identify areas of high agriculture vulnerability to climate change and availability of ICT services for dissemination of climate-smart agriculture information in the vulnerable areas. This simple methodology uses available data, is easy to apply, can be useful to prioritize locations for climate-smart interventions, mode of CSA information dissemination using ICT services, and increase coverage of agro-ICT services. »
