SOFI 2019: Safeguarding against economic slowdowns and downturns

This report reveals that since 2015, hunger has been slowly on a rise, with the global level of the prevalence of undernourishment slightly below 11 percent. One of the key drivers of the increase in hunger are economic slowdowns. Hunger has been on the rise in many of the countries where the economy slowed down or contracted. »

From November 10 to 22, the F&BKP participated in a scoping mission to Sudan and Somalia organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Purpose of the mission was to inform an upcoming regional resilience programme (FNS-REPRO) that intends to operationalize and implement UNSC Resolution 2417 on hunger and conflict in the Horn of Africa. »

This report “Ending Rural Hunger: Mapping Needs and Actions for Food and Nutrition Security” (PDF) argues that a new approach is needed to achieve Global Goal 2: Zero Hunger: the international community must shift from a pattern of erratic political attention and inadequate measurement of the underlying issues to a sustained, strategic, and evidence-based commitment to food and nutrition security (FNS).
