A three-day workshop “Strengthening Ugandan Food and Nutrition Security in policy and practice – Scaling innovations from food and agricultural research” was organized in June by NWO-WOTRO, F&BKP and AgriProFocus Uganda. Aim of the workshop was to take stock of the insights and outcomes of the ARF projects in Uganda. »

This report lays out a global action agenda that will help reduce food loss and waste to help meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The GCP project “Intermediaries in inclusive business networks for scaling food security in East & West Africa” which developed an IB market assessment tool that provides up front insights in the strengths and the weaknesses of markets for inclusive innovation on food and nutrition security, published its final research findings. »

This book lays the groundwork for more effective multisectoral action by analysing and generating emperical evidence to inform the joint targeting of nutrition-sensitive intervention. One fundamental ingredient of a successful strategy is the scale-up of interventions by agriculture (food security), health care, and WASH that are jointly targeted to geographic areas with high prevalence of stunting. »

This book shares new data relating to Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), with emphasis on experiences in Eastern and Southern Africa to answer key questions on the following five topic areas: (1) Climate impacts; (2) Climate-smart varieties; (3) Farm management; (4) Value chains; and (5) Scaling up. The papers illustrate, among other things, how practitioners can access free online tools,how new varieties of crops or better soil management can help farmers adapt; how information networks or entrepreneurial training can help the spread of promising technologies; how private-sector firms can promote CSA; and how farmer-to-farmer training can help bring CSA to scale. »

Impact at scale is needed to address critical global issues like water availability, sanitation, food security, access to clean energy and environmental concerns. But at the same time we all seem to wonder what scaling actually means in practice: how can our policy or project activities contribute to reach impact at scale? The PPPLab, studied to what it realistically takes to scale, and developed a practical tool that helps projects to identify strengths and weaknesses of their scaling strategies.  »
