SUMMARY:Third International Conference on Global Food Security
DESCRIPTION:This year’s International Conference on Global Food Security focuses on “Food Security: Global challenges\, local solutions”. The aim is to unlock innovative\, integrated\, multidisciplinary science and technology; and the scope is activation of all dimensions of sustainable development goals for food security for all. \nGlobal food security will require a holistic approach to address socio-political\, natural\, health\, agricultural and food sciences to feed the 9 billion people. The food security challenge must address the triple burden of malnutrition – undernutrition\, obesity and micronutrient deficiencies. The Third International Conference on Global Food Security therefore aims to deliver critical analysis and innovative science that address the biggest threat ever faced by mankind. \nDiscussion sessions will contribute to a better understanding of behavioral\, biophysical\, economic\, institutional\, political\, social and technological drivers and supply chain systems to contribute to global food security. The conference will address the food system activities of production (crops\, livestock) or harvesting (freshwater and marine sources)\, processing\, distribution systems and consumption behavior and the synergies and trade-offs between economic\, environmental\, health and social objectives and outcomes. The conference will provide a cross cutting view of multiple disciplines and spatiotemporal scales of analysis to span the drivers\, activities and outcomes of food systems to reflect on the broad challenge of food security. \n

The two day event will provide an exclusive platform for collaboration and discussion between a variety of industry perspectives including manufacturers\, suppliers\, distribution/logistics\, academia but some other involved areas as policymakers\, NGO’s\, nutrition and environment preservers.  \nTackling the latest opportunities arising from society concerns\, the objective of this conference is to emphasize and implement the latest plant technology and best practices within operational production. The main aim is to identify potential solutions\, future work programmes and productive partnerships that overcome the key regulatory challenges. Focus on minimizing risk within the supply chain\, promoting access to secure food supply and environmental preservation. \nKey topics include: \n\nCurrent updates in the EU Policy & Regulation: Brexit and latest consultations\nExpanding the fertilizer market & new opportunities for grow\nAgrochemical formulation\, applications & production optimization\nOpportunities and barriers in micro-nutrients portfolio development\nThe latest nanotechnology applications & research initiatives\nUp-To-Date trading & pricing overview\n\nIFDC and Syngenta\nSenior representatives from IFDC and Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture will specifically speak on “Unlocking the multiple public good services from balanced fertilizers”: \n\nFertilizer have boosted crop yields but come with environmental impact beyond planetary boundaries.\nYet\, fertilizer can serve many more societal goals than food production alone which can stimulate urgently needed public and private investment in R&D for innovation.\nIncreased awareness among NGO’s\, policy makers\, private sector and research institutions is needed to push for transformation of the fertilizer sector.\n\nIFDC would particularly welcome farmers practicing innovative (= more than just the standard) fertilizer operations; and development NGOs who would like to enter into the conversation with fertilizer companies. \n
