SUMMARY:Conference: "Boosting youth employment in Africa: what works and why?"
DESCRIPTION:INCLUDE and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly organize a conference on Boosting youth employment in Africa: what works and why? on 30 May. The conference will be hosted by the Netherlands Minister for ForeignÂ Trade and Development Cooperation\, Ms Lilianne Ploumen. \nCreating productive and sustainable jobs for African youth on a large scale is a priority issue in international dialogues. This conference wants to provide a platform to Dutch\, European and African policymakers and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and the latest research evidence to formulate solutions with impact. Young African entrepreneurs from e.g. agribusiness and the tech sector as well as (political) youth leaders will be present to share their successes and challenges. \nKey questions to be addressed\n\nWhat are the general characteristics of youth unemployment in Africa?\nHow do employment opportunities for youth vary among African countries based on pc income\, education and skills and structure of the economy?\nWhat are the short and long term priorities\, also when it comes to reaching large numbers of youth?\nWhat different roles do stakeholders have in varying contexts?\nHow to proceed from diagnosis to country- and context-specific priorities and strategies?\nHow to engage organized youth in the whole process from diagnosis to policy design and implementation?\n\nParticipants\n\nSpeakers are Ms Lilianne Ploumen\, Netherlands Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation; Ms Ginette Nzau-Muteta\, Coordinator Jobs for Youth\, African Development Bank; Ms Diarietou Gaye (tbc)\, Country Director of the World Bank in Kenya; A high-level representative of the AU (tbc).\nPanel sessions will feature experts from ILO\, World Bank\, International Development Research Centre\, Agence Francaise DÃ©veloppement; academics from (African) knowledge institutes; representatives from the private sector and NGOs.\nAfrican policymakers and experts will present country-level strategies to boost youth employment (Rwanda\, Kenya\, Senegal\, Uganda\, Niger).\n\nParticipation in the conference is on invitation only. \nOnline debate\nINCLUDE facilitates an online debate in preparation for the conference through its â€˜Question of the Weekâ€™. The input gathered will be used for a synthesis paper with the newest knowledge on youth employment in Africa\, to become available before the conference.
