SUMMARY:Launch FAO Special Programme on Youth Employment
DESCRIPTION:The FAO Regional Office for Africa is organizing a regional workshop on Youth Employment titled “Enabling decent agriculture and agri-business jobs” in Accra\, Ghana. The main purpose of the workshop is to launch the new regional FAO Special Programme on Youth Employment. \nOther purpose is to exchange with experts and partners on the latest trends and approaches for promoting more and better jobs for the youth in the agricultural sector and value chains. \n\nThe workshop will also afford an important opportunity to reflect on FAO’s work on rural youth employment and its progress to date\, while discussing complementarities with other ongoing programmes and further avenues for collaboration with partners. \nIt is expected that discussions will provide valuable inputs to prioritize the activities for the 3-month set-up phase of the FAO Special Programme which will support several countries in the region in harnessing its huge demographic dividend\, while contributing to the rejuvenation of the aging farming population. \nThe subject is aligned to the AU 2017 theme of Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through investments in the youth. \n \n\n
