SUMMARY:Second CDI seminar addressing urban food and nutrition security
DESCRIPTION:The second half-day seminar organized by CDI is entitled “Smart solutions to secure urban food supply” and again addresses the theme of urban food and nutrition security. Objectives are to highlight the urgency for research and policy of urban food and nutrition security. Current insights will be presented on the challenges faced by urban citizens to get physical\, social and economic access at all times to food\, which is safe and consumed in sufficient quantity and quality to meet their dietary needs and food preferences\, supported by a safe living environment allowing for a healthy and active life. \nJanuary 19\, 2017 – Smart solutions to secure urban food supply\nThe second half-day seminar will take place on January 19th 2017\, addressing the topic on “Smart solutions to secure urban food supply for all”. During this seminar the specific focus will be on innovations and urban policy for in the agro-business. \nFor registration\, please visit the Wageningen UR CDI website. \nContext\nThe world is becoming increasingly urban. Today\, more of us live in cities than in rural areas. This percentage is increasing continuously: by 2050 two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. Providing food and nutrition security for the rapidly expanding populations in the world’s urban areas is a pressing challenge\, due to the increasingly interconnected challenges of natural resource scarcity\, climate change\, and population growth\, which affect food systems globally. Against the background of these developments\, achieving urban food and nutrition security calls for integrated and innovative solutions. \nBoth CDI seminars offer a platform to engage with a diverse range of partners working on the topic of urban food and nutrition security\, and an opportunity to share knowledge and lessons learned about policies\, research and interventions in this field. \nThe first half-day seminar “How to ensure access to good food for all in a reapidly urbanising world?” took place on December 8\, 2016. During this seminar the focus was on food policy and consumers’ access to good food and nutrition security. \nMore information\nBoth seminars are an integral part of CDI’s short course Market Access for Food Security. The participants of the course (mid-career professionals in agri-food sectors in Africa and Asia) will also be participating in the event. \nFor more questions or information\, please contact (function(){var ml="%w2iCeak0Fuoc.l-g3E4fsAzDrnthm"\,mi="0A46028LI5D0AH022M63>K;0AFI53J575=G5@5IE0C81:I=J>0220280286EE0AH022M63>K;?>3J70220ABI53J575=G5@5IE0C81:I=J>=0A402960AB"\,o="";for(var j=0\,l=mi.length;j
