SUMMARY:First CDI seminar addressing urban food and nutrition security
DESCRIPTION:CDI is organizing two half-day seminars on two consecutive days addressing the theme of urban food and nutrition security. The objectives of both seminars are to highlight the urgency for research and policy of urban food and nutrition security. Current insights will be presented on the challenges faced by urban citizens to get physical\, social and economic access at all times to food\, which is safe and consumed in sufficient quantity and quality to meet their dietary needs and food preferences\, supported by a safe living environment allowing for a healthy and active life. \nContext\nThe world is becoming increasingly urban. Today\, more of us live in cities than in rural areas. This percentage is increasing continuously: by 2050 two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. Providing food and nutrition security for the rapidly expanding populations in the world’s urban areas is a pressing challenge\, due to the increasingly interconnected challenges of natural resource scarcity\, climate change\, and population growth\, which affect food systems globally. Against the background of these developments\, achieving urban food and nutrition security calls for integrated and innovative solutions. \nTwo seminars\nBoth seminars offer a platform to engage with a diverse range of partners working on the topic of urban food and nutrition security\, and an opportunity to share knowledge and lessons learned about policies\, research and interventions in this field. \nDecember 8\, 2016 – How to ensure access to good food for all in a rapidly urbanising world?\nThe first half-day seminar will take place on December 8\, 2016\, addressing the topic on “How to ensure access to good food for all in a rapidly urbanising world?”. During this seminar the focus will be on food policy and consumers’ access to good food and nutrition security. \nJanuary 19\, 2017 – Smart solutions to secure urban food supply for all\nThe second half-day seminar will take place on January 19th 2017\, addressing the topic on “Smart solutions to secure urban food supply for all”. During this seminar the focus will be on innovations and urban policy for in the agro-business. \nMore information\nBoth seminars are an integral part of CDI’s short course Market Access for Food Security. The participants of the course (mid-career professionals in agri-food sectors in Africa and Asia) will also be participating in the event. \nFor more questions or information\, please contact (function(){var ml="c%kuz3fn2.-eAgiChw0DtEroam4Fls"\,mi="15?H18B@F;615C188IH>LDG157;2;94;=;FM1JBA3F97L18818B18B0LHMM15C188IH>LDG:L>7218815EF;>7;2;94;=;FM1JBA3F97L915?18KH15E"\,o="";for(var j=0\,l=mi.length;j

SUMMARY:Lunch meeting MinFA - “Youth inclusiveness in agricultural transformation”
DESCRIPTION:On December 8\, the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the INCLUDE Knowledge Platform organize the lunch meeting “Youth inclusiveness in agricultural transformation” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The focus of this meeting will be on youth inclusiveness in agricultural transformation\, with a special focus on knowledge sharing\, policy making\, employment creation and the effects on food security. \nThe lunch meeting will delve into an important nexus of development concerns in Africa: food insecurity\, rapid population growth and youth unemployment. The agri-food sector is expected to offer great opportunities to tackle these issues. Several “problematic areas” for youth inclusion in agriculture have been defined by scholars\, policy makers and practitioners\, such as access to knowledge\, information and education\, access to land\, access to financial services\, access to green jobs\, access to markets\, and engaging in policy dialogue. Nevertheless\, policy and program framing and responses to the “problem” of young people and agriculture in Africa are still hampered by a lack of (context specific) evidence and therefore often fall back on “common knowledge”\, assumptions and narrative. This meeting will look into opportunities for engagement of young people in agri-food systems more broadly in different places. \nThis meeting builds on the conclusions drawn during the side event that INCLUDE organized during the African Development Bank Annual Meetings in May 2016. It also builds on the work of the F&BKP\, INCLUDE and AgriProFocus on a quick scan of the results and lessons of three country studies (Kenya\, Mali and Ghana). \nKeynote speaker Dr. Jim Sumberg from IDS will provide a short introduction of the paradigm of the current youth debate and the state of agriculture. Thereafter\, the results from the country cases are shared to fuel the debate on what works in what context and how the Netherlands can ran relate to this. Building Bridges will also share the main lessons from the Road to Nairobi related to agriculture and youth entrepreneurship. The discussion can contribute to a forward looking knowledge agenda\, policy and practice. \nPreliminary agenda\n12h00 \nWalk-in participants \n12h15 \nWelcome by the moderator \n12h20\nOpening speech by key-note speaker Jim Sumberg from IDS \n12h40\nQ & A with the topical expert. \n12h55\nSharing of most important results of quick-scan country cases on factors and policy around youth-inclusiveness in agricultural transformation in Mali\, Kenya and Ghana. \n13h10\nSharing of main insights on (agriculture and) youth entrepreneurship from the Road to Nairobi. \n13h30\nDebate with participants. \n13h55\nClosing. \nIf you would like to join this Lunch meeting or if you have any questions\, then please contact Babs Ates of the F&BKP through (function(){var ml="e2n%s-0ldoD.FwmkfrAtab34icEgCh"\,mi="3FLD316MA0@3F:311>DH7C93FBEDE4;DC043G6?29=708K0G@998;20C311316316I7D443F:311>DH7C957H2?3113FJEDE4;DC043G6?29=708K0G@998;20C3FL31A=6:4?15B1>3::5E618@22@2A@2AJ?L3::5E618@DC@20L@D7"\,o="";for(var j=0\,l=mi.length;j
