SUMMARY:World Dairy Summit "Dare to Dairy"
DESCRIPTION:The Netherlands National Committee of IDF is proud to organize the IDF World Dairy Summit 2016 in De Doelen in Rotterdam ” Dare to Dairy”. For decades the Dutch dairy sector has been in the forefront of developments in the global dairy sector. The entrepreneurship\, innovation and international orientation that underpin the competitive position of the Dutch dairy sector will undoubtedly attract many visitors from all over the world to the IDF World Dairy Summit 2016. \nThe major challenge for the global dairy sector is how to help nourish a growing population in a sustainable way. IDF is convinced that dairy will be an important source of safe and sustainable nutrition in the years to come. In the Netherlands we are well aware that dairy can only play this role in close collaboration with the global community\, including both governmental and non-governmental organizations. \nThere is no doubt that differences of opinion on the role of dairy in nutrition and sustainability\, do exist. Centuries of close collaboration and interdependence to reclaim and defend our country from the sea have deeply embedded engagement and dialogue between opposing views in the Dutch culture. \nThrough the IDF World Dairy Summit 2016 IDF aims to make a difference by facilitating dialogue with stakeholders of the global dairy sector\, including views from outside\, on how dairy can sustainably contribute to feeding 9 billion people. \nThere is a lot at stake for dairy and the world and the question is: \n\nDo we dare to… engage\nDo we dare to… share\nDo we dare to… innovate\nDo we dare to… challenge\nDo we dare to… dream\nDo we… Dare to Dairy?\n\nYou are invited to Dare to Dairy! \n

SUMMARY:Committee on World Food Security plenary session 43
DESCRIPTION:The Committee for World Food Security (CFS) is the United Nations’ forum for reviewing and following up on policies concerning world food security. It also examines issues which affect the world food situation. The CFS annual plenary session 43 will consider policy recommendations based on the latest HLPE Report. \nThe vision of the CFS is to be the most inclusive international and intergovernmental platform for all stakeholders to work together in a coordinated way to ensure food security and nutrition for all. It underwent reform in 2009 to ensure that the voices of other stakeholders were heard in the global debate on food security and nutrition. The Committee reports to the UN General Assembly through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and to FAO Conference. \nCFS hold annual plenary sessions which inform\, debate and recommend actions to be taken by CFS stakeholders on food security and nutrition issues. Policy round tables are held to provide policy advice on the most topical issues. Between the sessions\, there are regular meetings of the CFS Bureau and Advisory Group. CFS also contributes to various food security and nutrition related events and initiatives throughout the year. \nCFS annual plenary session 43 will take place from October 17 till 21 and will consider policy recommendations based on the HLPE Report 2016 entitled “Sustainable agricultural development for food security and nutrition: what roles for livestock?“. The CFS Chair Amira Gornass will open the launch followed by an introduction by the Chair of the HLPE Steering Committee\, Patrick Caron. The main findings of the report and recommendations will be presented by Wilfrid Legg\, the HLPE Project Team Leader. \nPlease download here the Guide for the CFS 43 Side Events. \n

SUMMARY:CFS 43 Side Event Food losses & waste in context of metropolitan food & nutrition security
DESCRIPTION:During the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) Plenary Session 43\, the Postharvest Network is co-organizing a Side Event\, entitled “Food losses and waste in the context of metropolitan food and nutrition security”. Other co-organizers are Wageningen University & Research\, CCAFS\, the Dutch Ministries of Economic and Foreign Affairs and FAO. \nBackground information\nThe growing world population\, urbanization and growing middle classes will increase already existing challenges for metropolitan food and nutrition security. The supply of (mega) cities with healthy and fresh products needs robust and efficient supply chains in order to provide sufficient food in good quality and for affordable prices. \nSurrounding rural areas will be key for supplying cities and strong urban-rural linkages are needed in order to come to solutions. The urban-rural transformation has a significant impact on this development. \nFood losses and waste are a significant indicator of inefficient food systems and without interventions these will only increase leading to even more losses in social (food security)\, economic (loss of profit) and ecological (impact on resource use) respect. \nBuilding further on recommendations from the HLPE report #8 ‘Food losses and waste in the context of sustainable food systems’ and in cooperation with UNEP we will present an outline on what the future of metropolitan food and nutrition security could look like and which role the reduction of food losses and waste will play. The discussion will explore examples of good practices\, possible interventions\, monitoring tools\, and the role of governmental players\, private sector\, knowledge institutions and civil society. \nProgramme\n13.00 – Ms Nina Waldhauer\, Project Manager Supply Chain Management\, Wageningen University & Research.\nTopic: The global challenge of metropolitan food security: How to translate into local solutions? \n13.10 – Mr Guido Santini\, Programme Coordinator – Food for the Cities Programme\, Rural and urban crop and mechanization systems (AGPML)\, FAO.\nMs Camelia Bucatariu\, Technical Officer (Food Waste)\, Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction (SAVE FOOD)\, Nutrition and Food Systems Division (ESN)\, FAO\nTopic: City Region Food Systems and Food Waste Management: Linking Urban and Rural Areas for Sustainable and Resilient Development. \n13.20 – Ms Larissa Uwase\, Chief Operations Officer & Co-founder\, Carl Group Ltd.\nTopic: The role of innovations in reducing food losses and wastes for sustainable urban food systems \nModerator: Mr Hans Hoogeveen\, Netherlands Representative to the FAO \nInteraction and discussion with the audience. \nFlyer\nDownload the flyer of the CFS 43 Side Event “Food losses and waste in the context of metropolitan food and nutrition security”. \n\n
