SUMMARY:Seminar Ready for Change (in Dutch)
DESCRIPTION:The seminar “Ready for Change” focuses on how to put the implementation of the SDGs high on the agenda in the Netherlands and in the EU. The seminar is initiated by Partos\, the Dutch association for NGOs working in International Development.    \nIn de ochtend gaan we\, onder leiding van Anna Knoll (ECPDM)\, de diepte in. Wat is precies het karakter van de Global Goals? Hoe samenhangend of coherent is die agenda? Veel meer dan de Milleniumdoelen hebben de Global Goals aandacht voor alle drie dimensies van ontwikkeling: economisch\, ecologisch en sociaal. Maar betekent dit dat een letterlijke uitvoering ervan automatisch leidt tot harmonische ontwikkeling op al die drie terreinen? En wat betekent precies de switch die de Global Goals Agenda maakt van ‘policy coherence for developent’ naar ‘policy coherence for sustainable development’? Al je vragen over de nieuwe agenda kun je die ochtend kwijt. \nRapport: Is Nederland klaar voor de Global Goals?\nNa de lunch is er werk aan de winkel. We gaan dan afspraken maken over het schrijven van een scherp rapport dat we in de tweede helft van april willen presenteren op een door ons georganiseerde internationale conferentie in Amsterdam. We mikken op Frans Timmermans\, vice-voorzitter van de Europese Commissie\, als hoofdspreker. Hij is in de EU verantwoordelijk voor duurzame ontwikkeling. Het rapport moet Nederland helpen in zijn rol als EU-voorzitter om een coherente uitvoering van de Global Goals door de EU en de lidstaten te bevorderen. \nOp 21 januari willen we op basis van de interesses van de deelnemers komen tot selectie van een aantal thema’s. Daarbij kijken we ook met een schuin oog naar de Nederlandse politieke prioriteiten tijdens het EU-voorzitterschap als het gaat om Agenda 2030 (duurzame mondiale waardeketens\, IMVO\, inclusiviteit). SUMMARY:Webinar: As good as money in the bank
DESCRIPTION:At the Ag Sector Council seminar “As Good as Money in the Bank: Increasing Resilience Through Improved On-Farm Storage” Ag Results representatives will discuss the the theoretical framework behind the Kenya On-Farm Storage Pilot\, which works through the private sector with incentive payments to promote on-farm storage. \nFarm products that are properly processed and stored can be a lifeline for smallholder farmers trying to break out of the feast/famine cycle. Secure storage can improve the resilience of an entire farm enterprise by improving the market value of crops\, allowing farmers to be price makers rather than price takers\, improving the variety and quality of food consumed by the farm household\, and increasing the year-round availability of food and income. \nAgResults\, a multi-donor initiative funded by the governments of Australia\, Canada\, the United Kingdom and the United States\, along with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation\, is examining the efficacy of using pull mechanisms to promote the uptake of innovative technologies\, and the efficacy of results-based economic incentives that contribute to improving smallholder resilience. \nAt our January Ag Sector Council seminar\, representatives from AgResults will discuss the theoretical framework behind the Kenya On-Farm Storage Pilot\, which works through the private sector with incentive payments to promote on-farm storage. This pilot activity and its tailor-made impact evaluation are already generating valuable information about constraints and structural factors that influence the storage habits of smallholder farmers. Join us to learn more about this unique approach to strengthening farmer resilience through improved storage. \n
