SUMMARY:Livestock & Horticulture Trade Mission to Rwanda
DESCRIPTION:\nFrom November 22-27\, NABC will organize a Livestock & Horticulture trade mission to Rwanda for the Dutch private sector active in livestock & horticulture. With a GDP growth of more than 7%\, a stable government and fast economic growth\, the Rwandan market is full of opportunities. \nThe dairy sector is in the fast lane\, with a reported milk-surplus. This creates chances in the whole chain\, for breeding organizations\, roughage and fodder production\, milk quality control and processing etc. Rwanda is landlocked and can easily serve its surrounding neighbour countries as well. \nThe poultry sector is less well developed. The production of chicken meat increased with 78% over the last 10 years but is still low compared to the surrounding countries. Egg production stalls at 32% growth over the last 10 years. More than half of the eggs consumed in Rwanda are imported. Opportunities in the poultry industry are in most parts of the chain; hatchery\, fodder production\, egg production etc. \nThe horticulture sector in Rwanda has been growing extensively over the last few years. However\, fruit & vegetable-imports from Kenya and neighbouring countries are still large. Local producers & traders can still not meet local demand\, and this in turn results in a large demand for knowledge\, technologies and products that can enlarge production. Interesting sub-sectors at this point are for example fertilizers\, irrigation equipment\, greenhouses\, processing equipment and seeds. \nDuring the mission we will organise visits to the larger processors and farms\, as well as facilitate meetings with interesting companies/prospective clients\, government officials and international development organisations. \nFor more information on the livestock-program please contact Lars Kramer ((function(){var ml="l4m%EisbhA2ea0r.nc-o3_gptkCFDf"\,mi="3DJ;M3DL3::231=@3::3:=A03F=JCHD43L:D7HDKB>F=NFOO1G4H2AFOOFO6DB4F=NFOO233;B2BDFOOFO6I4H88F=NFOOCH74>3E472AFOOF=5CHD43L:D7

SUMMARY:Live Q&A: how do we improve nutrition while tackling climate change?
DESCRIPTION:Climate change presents a serious threat to nutrition and food security. Earlier this year\, the World Food Programme made bleak predictions underlining the connection between the two issues. With climate change increasing the risk and intensity of climate disasters such as floods and drought\, unless huge efforts are made to increase climate resilience\, the risk of hunger and malnutrition could increase by 20% by 2050. It is also a two-way relationship. An estimated 25% of the world’s greenhouse gases are produced from global food systems\, of which half comes from food production and the other from transportation\, packaging\, processing and land use for agriculture. \nWith world leaders preparing to descend on Paris for climate talks at COP 21\, there is clearly an opportunity to make progress on both issues. What are the practical solutions to tackling climate change\, while improving nutrition and food security? And what are the challenges involved? \nJoin an expert panel on Thursday 26 November\, 1-3pm GMT\, to discuss these questions and more. \nThe live chat is not video or audio-enabled but will take place in the comments section (below). Get in touch via globaldevpros@theguardian.com or @GuardianGDP on Twitter to recommend someone for our expert panel.
