DESCRIPTION:Expo Milano 2015 is a non-commercial Universal Exposition with some very unique and innovative features. Not only is it an exhibition but also a process\, one of active participation among a large number of players around the theme of Feeding the Planet\, Energy for Life. SUMMARY:FAO e-conference: ‘Utilization of Food Loss and Waste as well as Non-Food Parts as Livestock Feed’
DESCRIPTION:From 1 to 30 October 2015\, the Livestock Production Systems Branch of Animal Production and Health Division\, FAO will host\, as part of the “Save Food” initiative\, an e-conference on “Utilization of Food Loss and Waste as well as Non-Food Parts as Livestock Feed“. \nWhy this e-conference\nApproximately 1.3-1.6 Gtonnes of food is lost or wasted globally every year\, which is estimated to have enormous environmental (ca 3.3 Gtonnes of CO2 eq. greenhouse gas emission/year\, 305 cubic km water/year\, 1.5 billion ha land to grow food that is wasted)\, social (936 billion US$) and economic (1055 billion US$) costs. Also the food loss and waste has an impact on food security\, natural resource availability\,  and local and national economies. FAO through the “Save Food” initiative is working with partners to develop\, plan and implement initiatives for efficient use of resources and harmonization of methodologies\, strategies and approaches. Globally many plant resources are being used either as food or as animal feed. This dual purpose use raises questions how to consider a change of utilization of plant resources from food to animal feed within the context of food losses and waste. SUMMARY:African Youth Conference on Climate Change 2015
DESCRIPTION:The African Youth Initiative Climate Change (AYICC) is convening the first edition of the African Youth Conference on Climate Change (AfriYOCC) on the theme: ‘’African Youth Responses to Climate Change and Food Security\, Action from the Frontline’’ from the 26th  to 27th October 2015 in Victoria Falls\, Zimbabwe. \nAfriYOCC 2015 will provide an avenue for African youth to showcase their climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies\, projects and initiatives. Best practices arising from the various AYICC country chapters shall be showcased and eventually developed to a best practices data base and handbook. The Africa ClimDev Youth Climate Platform will also be officially launched during AfriYOCC. \nAfriYOCC is holding in the most important year for development since 2000\, when the Millennium Development Goals were unveiled. DESCRIPTION:The 2015 edition of the Sahel and West Africa Week will be held at  Expo Milano from 26-30 October at the invitation of the ­European Union. The Sahel and West Africa Week is an annual event which gathers members\, partners and networks of the Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC). SUMMARY:Land Governance & Food Security in Uganda
DESCRIPTION:Access to land is vital for inclusive economic growth\, sustainable development and food security. Globalization increases national and international pressures on land for food production; but also tourism\, urbanization\, nature conservation\, mining\, climate change\, etc. spur the demand for land. Diverging interests and competing claims need to be managed – to prevent conflict\, to protect local rights and livelihoods\, to stimulate inclusive economic development and ensure food security\, from the global to the household level. Land governance is essential in managing these processes of inclusion and exclusion.  \nWorkshop\nThis workshop introduces participants to state-of-the-art knowledge and current debates on the linkages between land governance and food security in Uganda. Participants will share own experiences and learn about best practices in land governance\, policies and regulations\, and how to optimize the food security outcomes of activities. Topics are discussed in interactive minicourses\, presentations by local experts\, solution-oriented workshops and field visits.
