SUMMARY:Course: 'Facilitating multi-stakeholder processes and social learning'
DESCRIPTION:Complex problems require innovative solutions. Such solutions are created when diverse stakeholders are able to meet\, share experiences\, learn together and contribute to decisions. Ultimate success then lies in developing the collective commitment and capacity to turn ideas and plans into action. This can be achieved through multi-stakeholder processes (MSPs) and social learning. \n\nUsing participatory approaches for institutional change\nMultiple stakeholders\, multiple interests\nThis course covers state-of-the-art thinking about designing and facilitating MSP’s and social learning. You will learn what an MSP is\, why we need them\, what its key elements are and how to design and facilitate them. Creating MSP’s means finding innovative approaches to work together across boundaries of business\, government and civil society. We will work highly interactive building on participant’s own experiences. You will have discussions\, work on group assignments\, engage in role-plays and undertake fieldwork to explore the real life MSP. You will practice with a wide range of participatory methodologies and tools. The facilitators follow a flexible programme that allows adaptation to specific needs of individuals and the group. \nCourse objectives\nUpon completion of the course you will be able to: \n\nunderstand the concept and rationale of multi-stakeholder processes\, institutional change and social learning;\nanalyse different types of multi-stakeholder processes in terms of the issues at stake\, the stakeholders\, their interests\, power relations\, conflicts\, external contacts\, etc.;\npractice and learn how to use a broad range of participatory methodologies and tools in MSPs;\nhave a good insight in the types of institutional change and support necessary for effective MSPs;\ndesign and plan an extended MSP;\nassess the impact of your  personal style in facilitation\, communication\, leadership and dealing with conflicts.\n\nTarget audience\nWe welcome participants who are involved\, or will be involved in the future\, in the facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes. You may work for an NGO\, government\, private sector organisation\, research facility\, university or consultancy and you are in the challenging position to design\, facilitate or participate in MSP’s. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Market-led economic development is ‘hot’ these days. It is considered to be an important vehicle for poverty reduction and sustainable development. But the focus tends to be on international trade – while for most smallholder producers\, rural economies and the dynamics of local-to-local markets are far more important. \nCatalysing vibrant rural economies\nMaking markets work for local communities\nThe course is aimed at catalysing vibrant rural economies. It focuses on the changing roles of rural policies and services in sub-Saharan Africa. It introduces the participants to a set of five generic types of interventions that boost local market demand. Each generic intervention type will be illustrated by real\, life cases in the course by the case owners themselves. The case illustrations will assist in appreciating the rigidity of reality. The participants will also practice with a tool through which newly proposed interventions can be tested on the likely impact these generate. \nThe course is highly interactive and will build on the participant’s own experiences and personal cases. These will serve as building blocks for ‘bankable’ project proposals that will be developed during the course. The program offers a balanced ‘diet’ including introductions to concepts\, practices\, participatory group work\, guestlectures\, case study presentations and excursions. \nCourse objectives\nUpon completion of the course you will: \n\nhave good understanding of conceptual frameworks to identify development opportunities for rural communities and spin-offs for rural wealth creation;\nbe able to appreciate the linkages between poverty and livelihood strategies\, the role of agribusiness development and effective services delivery\, and the potential of local-to-local markets and value chains to ‘work for the poor’;\nbe able to facilitate participatory approaches and methodologies for innovation and change processes;\nbe able to apply tools and instruments for strategic and effective interventions catalysing processes that boost rural economies.\n\nTarget audience\nThis regional course is designed for mid-career professionals of government departments\, non-governmental and civil society organisations\, business associations\, development agencies\, universities and colleges for higher education\, and for other professionals working in the domain of market-driven local economic development. \n

DESCRIPTION:Wereldvoedseldag 2014\nOp 16 oktober is het Wereldvoedseldag. Om deze dag extra kracht bij te zetten vinden er begin oktober publieksacties plaats door het hele land. Van 1 tot en met 15 oktober zal er elke dag op een andere locatie in Nederland een inspirerend statement worden gemaakt voor een beter voedselsysteem wereldwijd. In de afgelopen maand kon iedereen in heel Nederland\, van stichting tot enthousiasteling\, zijn idee indienen. Een jury bestaande uit FoodGuerrilla\, Economische Zaken\, en Oxfam Novib selecteerde de beste vijftien inzendingen.\n \nWaarom deze acties?\nSteeds meer beseffen we ons dat we problemen in ons voedselsysteem aan moeten pakken door samen te werken. Ook beginnen we steeds vaker in te zien hoe groot het effect is van de manier waarop wij hier omgaan met voedsel in andere delen van de wereld. Tijd dus om aan de Nederlanders te vragen welke statement zij willen maken voor goed voedsel. \nDe jury bestaande uit afgevaardigden van Ministerie van Economische Zaken\, Oxfam Novib en FoodGuerrilla hebben een flinke hoeveelheid inzendingen beoordeeld op een aantal punten\, zoals ‘zit er een mondiaal aspect in? en ‘is de actie toegankelijk voor een groot publiek?’. SUMMARY:Seminar: 'EU-policy for agriculture\, food and green' (in Dutch)
DESCRIPTION:Cursus EU-beleid voor landbouw\, voedsel en groen\nNu de verkiezingen voor het Europees Parlement voorbij zijn\, wordt in Brussel hard gewerkt aan de vorming van een nieuwe Europese Commissie. Deze treedt normaal gesproken eind 2014 in functie. Daarna zal alle aandacht zich richten op de inhoudelijke werkprogramma’s van Commissie\, Raad en Parlement voor de periode 2015-2019. Een element daarbij is het Nederlandse Voorzitterschap van de Raad in het eerste halfjaar van 2016. Daarnaast is in dezelfde periode een nieuwe “midterm review” van het gemeenschappelijk landbouwbeleid te verwachten\, en staan vermoedelijk ook delen van het beleid voor voedsel en groen op de werkprogramma’s. \nDe onderwerpen tijdens het Seminar ‘EU-policy for agriculture\, food and green’\, worden ingeleid door de specialisten Joost Korte en Louise Fresco. Joost Korte is sinds 1 januari 2014 adjunct-directeur-generaal bij het Dictoraat Generaal Landbouw en Plattelandsontwikkeling van de Europese Commissie en direct verantwoordelijk voor het landbouwprijs- en inkomensbeleid. Louise Fresco is landbouw- en voedseldeskundige en vanaf 1 juli 2014 voorzitter van de Raad van Bestuur van Wageningen UR. Reflecties op de inleidingen worden gegeven door Gerrit Meester en door Roald Lappere\, directeur Europees landbouwbeleid en voedselveiligheid en plaatsvervangend directeur-generaal Agro van het Ministerie van Economische Zaken. Er is daarnaast ruime gelegenheid voor discussietijdens en netwerken na afloop van het seminar. \nDoelgroep \nDit seminar is gericht op alle oud deelnemers van de cursus EU-Beleid van de afgelopen jaren. Daarnaast zijn afgestudeerden (universitair of hoger beroepsonderwijs) en anderen met een gelijkwaardige opleiding\, die behoefte hebben aan een algemeen overzicht en inzicht in de complexe samenhang van de beleidsterreinen landbouw\, voedsel en groen in de Europese Unie\, van harte welkom. \nNa afloop van het seminar bent u weer volledig op de hoogte van de meest recente EU-Beleidsontwikkelingen\, in het bijzonder over het gemeenschappelijk landbouwbeleid (GLB) en de bijdragen die Wageningen UR hieraan kan leveren. \n
