This publication provides an overview of the key continental, regional and national frameworks and policies to promote sustainable and resilient food value chains (VC) in Sub-Saharan Africa, and it examines their effectiveness. The study looks at six VCs: livestock (including meat and dairy products), rice, cassava, maize, pulses and mangoes in several dryland countries. »

Over the course of six topics, participants in the Online Learning Alliance discussed and exchanged ideas on how to sustain pastoralism as a production system. »

This report studies whether women who have participated in Farmer Nutrition Schools are more empowered than women who have not. For this the Abbreviated Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index tool was used. Although lessons in the schools did not specifically address empowerment, they did focus on indicators of empowerment. »

This publication provides a list of food system-based intervention options to improve nutrition and a set concrete entry points for maximizing the impact of each intervention. For each intervention, information is provided on: what the intervention includes; why it has the potential to improve nutrition and how it could be made more nutrition-sensitive. »

This publication examines how current seed policies and laws in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda affect smallholder farmers’ practices. The investigation is based on three measures: the degree of recognition of the roles and rights of smallholder farmers; the degree to which policy and legal regulations facilitate smallholder-based seed management; and the level of support such regulations provide for smallholder-based seed management. »
