ARF-2.1 Inland fisheries in Benin

ACED Benin has received funding from the Hewlett Foundation to improve and embed evidence use in the food security sector in Benin. This new partnership builds on the findings of the Applied Research Fund (ARF) project “Improving resilience of inland fisher communities in Benin”. »

In the context of the ARF project “Improving resilience of inland fisher communities in Benin” ACED, LHA and ACWFS organized a workshop on September 18, to improve knowledge exchange with policymakers and to strengthen their engagement in the sector. During the workshop six key messages were formulated. »

Despite its contribution to the livelihoods of more than 300,000 individuals, to food security and nutrition in Benin, the fishery sector receives less attention from research and policymakers compared to other agricultural sectors. A study conducted among 1,066 inland fishers (including 227 fisherwomen) provided critical information about their activities, vulnerability, resilience and water sharing rules. »
