Oxfam Novib, together with Butterfly Works, Edukans, Hivos, Plan and Venture Capital for Africa, is organizing the Symposium: “Working with youth for a sustainable future – What works and why to improve youth employment?” on June 20, 2017 in The Hague.

At the beginning of the day, things will be placed into perspective: an interactive exploration of the various thematic areas that participants will engage with during the interactive workshops; who is participating; what are the expectations; and, last but not least, a spotlight will be placed on the utmost urgency of working to improve youth employment.

A series of simultaneous interactive workshops will follow. Each workshop will take a deep-dive into one specific thematic area. From concrete experience, research, and/or measured results, a reflection will be held on the question how interventions can improve youth employment, and what does this improvement actually entail.

At the end of the afternoon the participants share a short reflection and recap on the main lessons that came out of the interactive workshops, looking at the central question how interventions can improve youth employment.

The second plenary session is a Panel Debate facilitated by OneWorld, entitled “Youth Employment to what end?”. It links back to the opening and discusses why an urgent engagement with the current youth employment crisis is needed.
